Program Description:
This 2-hour workshop equips participants with the essential knowledge needed to navigate the U.S. healthcare system with confidence. Refugees and immigrants often face language barriers, cultural misunderstandings, and lack of awareness about available health services. This training will empower participants to take charge of their health and well-being, understand their healthcare rights, and access life-saving services.
What You Will Learn:
- Understanding different health insurance options (Medicaid, Covered California, etc.)
- How to access primary, urgent, and emergency care
- Making, managing, and following up on medical appointments
- Reading prescriptions and managing medications
- Importance of mental health and how to find support
- Available local clinics and resources
Why It’s Important:
Health literacy is directly linked to better health outcomes. Without proper knowledge of how to access care, people may delay treatment, misuse medications, or fail to access preventative care. Understanding health services builds independence, confidence, and improves overall quality of life—especially for families who are new to the U.S. healthcare system.
