Empowering Afghan Women and Families

Unity to Serve International (USI) was founded on May 13, 2025, in Concord, California, to support Afghan refugees—particularly women—as they resettle in the Bay Area. While many Afghans have successfully built new lives in the United States, others continue to face significant challenges. USI works to remove barriers to integration, providing resources, opportunities, and community support so that every individual has the chance to thrive.

  • Women, many of whom had never worked outside the home, often feel isolated—struggling with language barriers and limited job opportunities.
  • Men, even those fluent in English, face repeated rejection due to lack of U.S.-recognized work experience or technical credentials.
  • Families, full of potential, encounter invisible barriers that limit their progress and integration.

USI serves a diverse range of individuals, including refugees, immigrants, women re-entering the workforce, tech-novice seniors, youth, and others with limited access to education, healthcare, or economic opportunities.

In August 2025, USI celebrated a milestone with the inauguration of its new headquarters in Concord. The event highlighted the organization’s programs, including technology access, workforce development, digital literacy, health and family support, and community engagement. Executive Director Ramin Khanzada described USI as a “launchpad” for individuals to gain experience, build confidence, and take their first steps toward independence.

A signature initiative is the Afghan Startup Website Development project, which provides Afghan entrepreneurs affordable access to professional branding, design, and digital tools. This program equips participants with essential skills while fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.

Looking ahead, USI plans to launch a dedicated Workforce Development Department to provide job placement, leadership training, and ongoing mentorship. These initiatives will expand opportunities for Afghan women, refugee families, and other underserved communities, helping them become active contributors to their communities and confident leaders in their own lives.

Your support helps USI continue transforming lives, empowering communities, and creating lasting opportunities for Afghan women, families, and all those seeking guidance and opportunity.
